Eighty riders ages 4 to 50+ made their way to Haliburton for the last stop of the Roots Wakeboard and Wakeskate Series, the Sharpley Source for Sports Ontario Provincial Championships presented by Mastercraft Boats. Head Lake is an infamous site in Ontario Wakeboarding playing host to many past Provincial Championships and renowned events like Rock the Wake. The park spreads all the way down the shoreline of a glass-calm, tiny lake right in the heart of downtown Haliburton making it perfect for both riders and spectators alike. Sharpleys Source for Sports was an incredible host as always stocking the prizing for all the amateur divisions and handing out swag to the Haliburton locals who were out supporting the event.

The event kicked off with the Newbie and beginner boys divisions. At 4 years old Avery Spalding was the youngest competitor of the day winning the newbie girls, while Jesse Jarrett placed first in the newbie boys claiming the overall series title. In the beginner divisions the brother-sister dual of Kailegh and Jamie Panter scored the top spot in the overall series. Jamie also managed to pull off a hat-trick winning all three stops being one of two riders to receive a perfect overall score.

The intermediate men's division was the largest category of the day with three stacked heats of riders. Fresh off his win at the Rip Curl Grom Search Sebastian Santacroce managed to edge out series leader Harrison Carter for the provincial title, but did not quite have enough points to claim the overall. Harrison took the lead followed by Haliburton local Logan Enright in the overall standings. On the ladies side Muskoka Watersports coach Kelly Lawrence took the provincial title in her first contest ever.

Red Bull stepped up the game for the last stop by hosting the first-ever Ollie Contest in Ontario. Jordan Lavery and the Red Bull team put together an adjustable high-bar and riders were pulled towards the Ollie bar by Red Bull's Sugga winch. Full results will be released shortly by the Red Bull team.

As the day moved along the big boys & gals rolled in to compete for the cash in the Open divisions. Fresh off the flight from the World Championships, Robbie McMillen was jonesing for the win to give him the overall series title, but wasn't able to shake off Haliburton local Gavin Hicks and his Muskoka Watersports partner in crime Andy Milovanovic. Gav took the Provincial title in his hometown which put him into a two-way tied with Robbie Mac for the overall series. "I'm stoked to take the win here at home," say Gav, "It is always quite the battle in the Open men's wakeboard division since we are all so close in our riding-level, and results have been different at every stop so it keeps us on our toes." Leslie Sparks was able to throw down for the ladies stomping one of her best runs so far this year putting her up on the top spot for both the provincial and overall series title.

Over in the Wakeskate world Addison Farr managed to take the cake followed by Tommy Bailey and Aaron Turek in third. Big gun Brady Hicks had an un-characteristic fall in the finals but still managed to pull off a tie for the series title alongside his good friend and riding buddy Tommy Bailey. Both Brady and Tommy had an epic season making their way into the pro-division for the first time at Wakestock showing the world that they aren't just local boys anymore.

Overall the series had a record year for riders and it can only grow from here. A huge thank you goes out to the Ontario Wakeboard Committee, Jay Poole, Erika Langman, Ally Boothroyd, Leslie Sparkes, Jono Boysen, Sean Flemming and Dave Tsuyuki for making the series a possibility. Also a big thank you to everyone who volunteered long hours at each of the events, the Ontario wakeboard community is one heck of a supportive family where everyone plays a part. Stoked for 2012!
